The article in the above photo is about

A cat owner asking Becca, experienced groomer of 22 years questions about his cat.

He is thinking about shaving his own cat.

We asked Becca to elaborate on her thoughts from this article.

Rebecca’s answers with the following :

No no please do not groom your own cat and call the professionals right away.

It could be me or someone else!

As long as you please have the professionals groom your cat!

When it comes to cats

“PLEASE DON’T TRY A DIY! “

🐈‍⬛ Cats are more difficult to groom than their furry counterpart, the dog🐶.

Cats stress easily and they also hate water. They lick themselves constantly in order to groom their own coat. The cat’s saliva has antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It is in a cat’s nature to groom himself, therefore they might put up a good fight in order to avoid being groomed by a human. He might turn into CATSZILLA AND START HISSING AND BITING. It is not unusual for the sweetest kitty to turn evil when they find out they are being groomed. This is why experienced groomers are a must!

Groomers will have the proper tools and the practice to get things done the right way.

Cat Scratch Fever is a real thing!

Cats have extra bad-a** saliva! It is far less troublesome to the human when bite or scratch occurs from a dog.

The saliva of a cat can actually make one very sick, it can cause a major infection, inflammation, and extra pain to the site.

A cat scratch can become very itchy, red. It is very deep & painful. The cat has nails that are razor sharp and can cause a deep and dangerous wounds to skin of his handler. The professional will know the proper way restrain the stressed out animal in hopes of avoiding these types of injuries.

Not only to himself, but to the cat!
When working on a cat’s groom with sharp(or dull) tools and no experience, one could severely injure the cat!
The skin of a cat can tear just like a thin fabric or a peice of paper just from one small cut! Cats have unique skin under that furry coat! Dogs and other mammals have skin that is attached to the bone and it doesn’t move around much or stretch. A tiny accident with the clippers or scissors can turn into a bloody awful mess as the skin tears wide open. No thank you!! This is something that can happen easily and quickly due to the elastic-like, stretchy, moveable, & loose nature of the skin: A professional pet groomer is trained to work with this skin. They will use clippers, shears, and techniques that will ensure the safety of the kitty and his skin. Also, in shaving the long haired cat, it is very easy to accidentally REMOVE HIS NIPPLE with the clippers while shaving. YUCK 🤮. - Let’s leave it to the professionals!

other reasons i strongly urge you not to groom your own cat:

•He is likely to behave better for the groomer.

•Cats nails retract so the groomer will use a special technique to push them out and clip. •Cats need shampoo & conditioner made specifically for them.

•Professionals have the nessessary equipment and tools made for the cat groom, such as the hammock, bathing bag, curry brushes, sharp blades, professional clippers and shears, restraints, muzzles, brushes & more!

•Groomers know not to spray the cat’s head and face with water because the cat will feel like he is drowning.

•A groomer will know if the cat’s Matt’s can be brushed or need shaving.

In order to avoid expensive vet bills, and extra visits to the groomer, set up your grooming appointment today!
