As a groomer I am often asked this question. Breeds such as Golden Retriever, Husky, German Shepherd, Collie, American Eskimo, Labrador retriever, Pomeranian, and all dogs who shed rather than tangle or Matt have what is called a “double-coat”. A double-coated dog tends to shed very heavily, which is why many people often think of shaving the dog rather than brushing.
